The Seatbelt Gear for Mercedes-Benz CLK A209 / C209 2002-2009 is part of the mechanism that allows the seatbelt to automatically extend and/or retract towards the driver. This function is particularly important for comfort and safety in coupe and convertible (C209 / A209) models. What is its function? It is part of the Automatic Seatbelt Retracting Mechanism. When the driver or passenger opens the door and sits down, the system extends the seatbelt forward for easy access to the buckle. Once the belt is fastened or the vehicle is started, the system retracts the belt back into place. The gear transmits the rotational movement of the motorized system that enables this back-and-forth movement. If it breaks over time, the belt extension/retraction function will not work. Symptoms of Malfunction: The belt buckle does not move forward. A gear click is heard but there is no movement. The belt remains constantly hanging or has to be pulled manually. Solution: The system usually malfunctions because the plastic gear has cracked or skipped a tooth. The mechanism can be restored to its original state by replacing this gear part; there is no need to replace the entire mechanism.
